CHICAGO (AP) ? A preliminary exam shows that an endangered baby gorilla born nine days ago at Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo died of head trauma.
Zoo workers discovered the baby gorilla was dead Friday morning, as she was being carried around by her mother.
The zoo says workers allowed the mother, 16-year-old Bana, to keep the baby for several hours "to make peace with what happened." She was a first-time mother.
The cause of death was determined later in the day during a necropsy, the animal version of an autopsy.
The baby's father was a 22-year-old silverback gorilla named Kwan.
The baby was the first Western lowland gorilla born at the zoo since 2005. She had not been named.
In a statement, the zoo says the baby appeared to be fully developed.

WASHINGTON ? Interest rates on short-term Treasury bills rose in Monday's auction for a second straight week after hitting record lows.
The Treasury Department auctioned $29 billion in three-month bills at a discount rate of 0.015 percent, up from 0.010 percent last week. Another $27 billion in six-month bills was auctioned at a discount rate of 0.050 percent, up from 0.040 percent last week.
Even with two weeks of gains, the rates still remain very close to the record lows set three weeks ago when the three-month bill averaged 0.005 percent and the six-month 0.035 percent.
This week, the three-month rate was the highest since it stood at 0.020 percent on Oct. 24. The six-month rate was the highest since these bills averaged 0.055 percent on Oct. 31.
The discount rates reflect that the bills sell for less than face value. For a $10,000 bill, the three-month price was $9,999.63 while a six-month bill sold for $9,997.49. That would equal an annualized rate of 0.015 percent for the three-month bills and 0.051 percent for the six-month bills.
Separately, the Federal Reserve said Monday that the average yield for one-year Treasury bills, a popular index for making changes in adjustable rate mortgages, edged up to 0.11 percent last week from 0.10 percent the previous week.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. ? The Eagles destroyed the Giants' season a year ago at the Meadowlands with a 28-point onslaught in the final seven minutes.
This time, Andy Reid's undermanned team used the slow and excruciating method to hurt the Giants once again and tighten the NFC East race.
Using a quarterback whose only pass this season had been intercepted to replace Michael Vick and a receiver who did not have a catch all season, Philadelphia marched 80 yards in a roughly 9 minutes and defeated the Giants 17-10 Sunday night on an 8-yard go-ahead touchdown pass from Vince Young to Riley Cooper with 2:45 to play.
"We knew we had to dig deep," said Cooper who had his first five catches of the season for 75 yards, with the final 8 being the difference in breathing life into the Eagles (4-6).
"Everybody contributed," Cooper said. "It was not just one player, not just one long play. We pieced that last drive together piece by piece."
What was so surprising was that the "Dream Team" did it in the fourth quarter, a period that had seen them lose five games earlier this season.
The Eagles found the solution this time with an 18-play march over 8:51 that sent the Giants (6-4) to their second straight loss.
"It's definitely a big win," said Young, who was 23 of 36 for 258 yards, two touchdown and three interceptions. "You see the excitement and the smiles on the guys and that's what we need, what we have to have."
Philadelphia converted six third-down plays with DeSean Jackson setting up the first-and-goal with a 10-yard catch to the 10, and Young capping it with his second touchdown pass of the game to a wide-open Cooper.
"We were taking our time, making plays and the guys came up with big plays on third down," Young said.
Jackson, who was benched for last week's game for missing a team meeting, finished with six catches for 88 yards and set up a touchdown pass to former Giant Steve Smith with a 51-yard punt return. LeSean McCoy added 113 yards rushing, with 60 coming on a late run that iced the game.
"Vince, stepping in for the great Michael Vick, that's a tough thing to do and he did it and the guys rallied around him," Reid said. "The offensive line and defensive line played well, the offensive line had a huge challenge when it counted and they were able to put some things together."
The Eagles, of course, made Reid sweat out the final minutes.
Eli Manning, who tied it with a 24-yard TD pass to Victor Cruz earlier in the quarter, drove the Giants from their own 10 to the Eagles 21 with the final 47 yards coming on a catch-and-run by Cruz with 1:25 to play.
However, Manning stepped out of the pocket on the next play and was hit from behind by Jason Babin and fumbled. Derek Landi recovered at the 26, sending the Giants to their second straight tough loss, coming on the heels of a 7-point loss to San Francisco, a game that ended with New York at the Niners 2.
"It was important because it keeps us alive," linebacker Jamar Chaney said. "We had faith coming in. We really did. We might have been banged up, but we had faith. I feel good about our defensive effort. We came up big. It was time for the defense to make a play and we have a lot of playmakers out there. Jason got the sack and Landri got the ball."
It dropped New York into a tie for first place with Dallas in the NFC East with six games to play and left the Eagles two games behind. The Cowboys beat the Redskins in overtime after Washington missed a game-winning field-goal attempt.
"This is as big a disappointment as we have had around here in a long time," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said in ripping his team for a no-show effort.
It also marked the second straight year the Eagles rallied late to beat New York at the Meadowlands with last year's 38-31 decision coming in a game that Philadelphia rallied from 21 points down late.
While Young made several big plays to spark the Eagles' offense, he also threw three interceptions, the most costly being one that Aaron Ross picked off in the end zone on a second-and-9 from the New York 16 with Philadelphia ahead 10-3 with 5 minutes left in the third quarter.
New York eventually tied it early in the fourth quarter on a 24-yard TD pass from Manning to Cruz. It was set up two plays earlier when Manning rolled out of the pocket and found Hakeem Nicks for a 47-yard gain on third down to the Eagles 24.
Manning was 18 of 35 for 264 yards, and Cruz had six catches for 128 yards. The Giants' running game failed to get going, rushing for just 29 yards.
"We can't always afford to be in those positions," Manning said of the recent late rallies. "I think we still feel confident when we get in there that we're going to move the ball and we're going to give ourselves a chance to win. It is just a matter of you don't always want to be in that position."
The first half was typical of an Eagles-Giants meeting: chippy, intense, hard-fought and, not surprisingly, ugly.
If there was a surprise, it was that the defenses dominated. The norm was Jackson taunting the Giants in more ways than one, including one that cost the Eagles a 50-yard pass completion.
Jackson set up both of the Eagles' scores in the first half. He caught a 32-yard pass early in the second quarter to set up a 33-yard field goal by Alex Henery and then brought back excruciating memories from last season with a 51-yard punt return that was a carbon copy of his winning 65-yard punt return on the final play of the Eagles' 38-31 Meadowlands Miracle, a game Philadelphia rallied from a 21-point deficit in the final seven-plus minutes.
What made the return so eerie was that Jackson fielded Steve Weatherford's punt at his own 35, circled right and then ran down the sideline in front of the Giants' bench ? the same thing he did last season. The only difference was Weatherford pushed him out of bounds at the 14; Matt Dodge was the Giants' punter last season.
It didn't matter. One play later, Young found former Giants receiver Steve Smith cutting under the zone and he easily outran linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka into the end zone with 1:22 left in the half.
It was enough time for Manning to get the Giants on the board. A 21-yard pass to Cruz on the first play got the ball the 41 and a late 10-catch by running back D.J. Ware on a play in which he suffered a concussion set up Lawrence Tynes' 48-yard field goal.
Notes: The game was Coughlin's 250th regular-season game, making him the 19th head coach in NFL history to reach the mark. He is 139-111, including 71-51 with the Giants. ... Reid said the Eagles had no major injuries. ... Giants rookie LB Mark Herzlich started his first game and the cancer survivor had four tackles. ... The Eagles sacked Manning three times. The Giants only got Young once. ... Giants Pro Bowl G Chris Snee played sick and said he threw up several times during the game. ... Philadelphia was 9 of 17 on third down.

New York supermarket magnate and Republican donor John Catsimatidis, has a suggestion for another formidable Republican ticket that can go up against President Barack Obama in the fall. He suggests a Mitt Romney/Rick Perry or a Perry/Romney ticket.
What is Catsimatidis' reasoning?
Catsimatidis, who has supported Romney and Perry, suggests such a ticket would have an ideological and a region balance. Romney is a northern moderate. Perry is a southern conservative. Thus the appeal of such a Republican ticket would be as broad as possible.
What are some of the historical examples of such a ticket?
Catsimatidis mentions the Kennedy/Johnson ticket of 1960, which married John Kennedy, a northerner, with Lyndon Johnson, a Texan. The other obvious example, though of an ideological as well as regional balance, was Ronald Reagan/George H.W. Bush 1980. Reagan was from California. Bush was from Texas but with roots in New England.
Are such tickets really "unstoppable" as Catsimatidis suggests?
Not always. In 1996 Bob Dole, a moderate, tried ideological balance by choosing Jack Kemp, a conservative icon, as his running mate. In 2004, John Kerry, a northerner, went for regional balance by choosing southerner John Edwards. In 1988 then-Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis choose Texan Lloyd Bentsen. All three tickets went down to defeat.
Have there been other combinations that have worked?
Some presidential candidates with little or no Washington experience have chosen a Washington insider to buttress the governing strength of a ticket. This was what was behind Jimmy Carter's selection of then-Sen. Walter Mondale in 1976, Bill Clinton's selection of then-Sen. Al Gore in 1992, and then-Texas Gov. George W. Bush's selection of Dick Cheney, a former congressman, White House chief of staff and Defense Secretary in 2000. All three of these tickets were successful.
How would that approach work for Perry?
Perry would choose a sitting senator or congressman in this scenario. Rep Michele Bachmann, another presidential candidate, is one possibility. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who would also bring in some ethnic balance, is at the top of everyone's list.

Sure, we?ve grown a little weary of the NBA lockout charity games. But when the president calls and says he is putting a game together guys are going to lace it up for that one.
Well, it?s to help fundraise for Barack Obama?s re-election campaign, so maybe we shouldn?t expect to see Spencer Hawes.
But the game is on and plenty of stars will play, reports Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel.
Friday night, BarackObama.com, a fundraising wing, announced that an NBA lockout game will be held Dec. 12 at a yet-to-be-announced venue in Washington, with Miami Heat forwards Chris Bosh and Juwan Howard, as well as Heat executive Alonzo Mourning among those on the playing rosters?.
Among others listed to participate in the event are New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul, Knicks center Amare Stoudemire, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard and Los Angeles Lakers point guard Derek Fisher, who had headed the now-defunct NBA players? union?. Ray Allen, Vince Carter, Tyson Chandler, Jamal Crawford, Baron Davis, Rudy Gay, Blake Griffin, Tyler Hansbrough, Juwan Howard, Antawn Jamison, Dahntay Jones, Kevin Love, Cheryl Miller, Reggie Miller, Dikembe Mutombo, Quentin Richardson, Tina Thompson, John Wall and Russell Westbrook.
The league has already stepped in and said this is game is exempt from the rules preventing team employees from interacting with players, so Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers and Orlando Magic assistant coach Patrick Ewing will be the coaches for the game. That also clears the way for Mourning, who has been out of the league since a 2007 knee injury and works for the Heat.
No official word, but Obama himself is not expected to lace it up for this game. Which is too bad, we wanted to see Reggie Miller drain a three over him them make the choking sign like he was talking to Spike Lee.

A Beginner?s Guide to Commodity Investing
by Carl Delfeld, Investment U Senior Analyst
Thursday, November 17, 2011
I?ll never forget my first visit as a teenager to the commodity-trading pit of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). The swirling bright colored jackets, the shouting and rapid hand signals (looked like arm wrestling to me) were captivating and reminded me of past family gatherings.
It was also the polar opposite of my later visit to the currency trading floor of JP Morgan at 1 Wall Street ? row after row of white shirts hunched over computer screens and dry IMF statistics.
Commodities sure looked like more fun to me.
My image of commodity markets hasn?t changed all that much since. It?s a volatile and wild ride where even a tiny bit of new information affecting supply or demand can send prices spinning. Weather, transportation costs, economic forecasts, currency movements and many other factors go into how prices change minute to minute.
I approach commodities trading cautiously since expert traders focused all day on one commodity, such as wheat, get it wrong as often as they get it right.
Still, I have to admit, the idea of making or losing a pile of money in a very short time gets my blood pumping.
So how should you approach commodities, and what should you do right now?
The Game Has Changed
Even a decade ago, most investors didn?t even think of investing in commodities except through companies like Alcoa (NYSE: AA) for aluminum, Freeport-McMoRan (NYSE: FCX) for copper, or Comstock Resources (NYSE: CRK) for natural gas.
But the game has changed.
The arrival of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and notes (ETNs) gives average investors the chance to get into the game with a just a click of the mouse.
The choices are staggering:
The ?Core-Explore? Commodity Strategy
Given the complexity and volatility involved in commodities, you must have an established strategy if you plan on having any success. So here?s an easy one:
This should make your overall portfolio less volatile and help preserve capital since commodities don?t usually move lockstep with stocks. In addition, raw materials provide you with a natural inflation hedge.
A great conservative play right now would be the PowerShares DB Agricultural ETF (NYSE: DBA). These agricultural commodities are down only marginally this year and tend to be less volatile than precious or industrial metals. In addition, the long-term bull story of a world population growing at a rate of 200,000 a day plus rising incomes driving higher food prices is very convincing.
To meet this growing demand, the World Bank estimates that farms worldwide will have to produce more food in the next 50 years than it did in the previous 10,000 years.
Here are the commodity weightings in this basket:
1. Sugar: 12.44%
2. Coffee: 11.91%
3. Cocoa: 11.21%
4. Live cattle: 8.68%
5. Corn future: 8.33%
6. Soybean future: 8.14%
7. Wheat future: 5.64%
8. Corn future: 5.35%
9. Lean Hogs future: 5.19%
10. Soybean future: 4.42%
So far in 2011, the perception of a weakening world economy has driven many commodities sharply lower. Nickel is down 30 percent, copper is down 24 percent and aluminum is down 17 percent so far this year. China is a big consumer of these industrial metals and concern that its economy is slowing has hit them pretty hard.
This is exactly why you should be getting interested in these industrial metals. You want to get in when markets have pulled back and, even better, when they are beginning to trend up. Keep an eye on the iPath Industrial Metals ETF (NYSE: JJM). The lower entry price gives you some downside protection but always have a sell stop in place in case markets move against you.
Now get out there and add some commodities to your global portfolio today.
Good investing,
Carl Delfeld

What if Mike McQueary had walked into the locker room and seen Jerry Sandusky raping a 10-year-old girl?
What if the investigators were listening to a mom confronting Sandusky about showering with her daughter? Would the Campus Police and County DA have dropped the case?
It's doubtful. Someone, somewhere, would have called him out. The difference? The additional shame factor: homosexuality. The allegations aren't that he was just abusing kids; the allegations are that he was abusing boys.
McQueary, Paterno and all the others were probably speechless due to both counts: not only would a school legend be known as a child rapist, but he would likely be perceived as gay.
Consider documented homophobia at Penn State. In 1986, women's basketball coach Rene Portland bragged to the Chicago Sun-Times about her policy of "No drugs. No alcohol. No lesbians." Responding to protests, then-Athletic-Director Joe Paterno defended her as one of the best hiring decisions he'd made.
After 1992, when the university added sexual orientation to their non-discrimination policy, she covertly continued her anti-lesbian practices for another 13 years. These led to her and Penn State being sued for discrimination in 2005 based on perceived sexual orientation. The university fought back, claiming their non-discrimination policy was not a legal document and eventually settled.
If that was the atmosphere for women's basketball, imagine what it was like for the macho, money-machine of the legendary football team!
Even today, students seem to think Portland's policies still resonate. Number 6 on the FAQ list on the Penn State's LGBTQA website is, "What do I do if I'm an athlete who is LGBT? Who can I talk to?" See the answers here. They're not exactly reassuring.
In this type of environment, where everyone knows policy is one thing and practice is another, perhaps Penn State was paralyzed not only by the alleged rapes, but by the fear of having a gay coach. This additional factor slowed down and skewed the response. When Coach is King, things get handled internally by the team, not reported to outside authorities who might reveal the Lions' shame.
After all, in the eyes of a homophobic culture, a gay pedophile is much worse than a straight one.
This tradition of tackling shame with silence impacted the victims, as well, who also slowed down and skewed their reporting. No doubt they wondered if a man being attracted to them meant they were gay -- something they knew was incompatible with Penn State football. So they, too, kept quiet.
Would it have been different if the child being raped was a girl? Yes. Because there would have been only one shame factor: having a pedophile on the payroll.
Fear of the gay factor, in a very twisted way, probably protected Jerry Sandusky. It silenced his witnesses, betrayed his victims, and prevented justice from being served.

When the car appears in 2014 (Jag hasn't confirmed production, but it's all but definite), it'll more likely come with the supercharged V6 only. And we bet Jaguar will offer a manual transmission, too. Expect this one to start around $75,000.

When Nokia unveiled its first two Windows Phone 7.5 handsets, the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800, it showed off an interesting music feature called MixRadio, which allows a user to access pre-made music playlists. At least, that?s all we thought it did. Today, Nokia has revealed that a streaming service called Echo Nest powers MixRadio, meaning it appears to be a lot more robust than we initially believed.
The Lumia 800 will be the first handset to include the MixRadio app, which has a library of more than 15 million songs, a full MP3 store, live concert recommendations, and the ability to download as much as 15 hours of music onto the phone for offline playback.?Like Pandora and Genius Playlists on iTunes, MixRadio can also help users make custom music stations based on any song or artist, and it comes preloaded with about 100 prepackaged stations made by the folks at Echo Nest.?
?We?re obsessed with understanding the entire world of music so we can enrich consumers? lives with a more meaningful listening experience,? said Jim Lucchese, CEO of The Echo Nest. ?Nokia?s MixRadio unites our music intelligence platform with a beautiful device, delivering the most personalized global music service the world has ever seen. We are thrilled to be helping Nokia give millions of music fans this intelligent, personalized digital music experience.?
While we in the U.S. are still waiting on the Lumia 800, and take music streaming services for granted, Nokia?s MixRadio will be the first legitimate music streaming option available in some countries, reps tell us. The app will be available in about 50 countries by the end of 2012, showing the reach of Nokia. We look forward to testing it out when Nokia handsets finally make their way to the U.S.?probably at CES in January. Stay tuned.

Tyler Christensen is a student at MIT whose presence is certain to light up the room. That'd be because of his hat, which happens to have a functioning Tesla coil mounted on top of it.
Christensen built the sparking head decor to serve as part of his Halloween costume this year. The hat features a working sound system in addition to the coil, which emits brilliant blue arcs of electricity in time with the music ? in this case, the Mortal Kombat and Harry Potter movie themes, as you can hear for yourself in the video.
Calling the device "a really bad idea" on his blog, Christensen says he intends to improve it, but only after finishing up his coursework. If he's not one of the brightest students in his class, it'll come as quite a shock. Those interested in making their own questionably safe lightning hat can do so thanks to the schematics Christensen was kind enough to post on his blog.

PARIS ? Three French aid workers kidnapped in Yemen have been freed with the help of the sultan of Oman after nearly six months in captivity, the French president's office said Monday.
Men linked to al-Qaida's offshoot in Yemen had demanded a $12 million ransom for the three, security officials and local tribesman said in July.
The statement from Nicolas Sarkozy's office announcing the release provides no details of what happened. French authorities insist the government does not pay ransoms.
Sarkozy "warmly thanks the sultan of Oman and the Oman authorities for their decisive help, as well as all those who contributed to this happy outcome," the statement said, without elaborating.
The two women and one man from the aid group Triangle Generation Humanitaire were abducted May 28 in eastern Yemen's Hadramawt province, which is home to al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.
The aid group, based in Lyon, France, could not immediately be reached for comment Monday on the release.
Security in Yemen, the Arab world's poorest country, has unraveled since the outbreak of an uprising nine months ago against President Ali Abdullah Saleh, in power for 30 years. Al-Qaida-linked militants have taken control of entire towns in the country's restive south.
Yemeni government forces and allied tribesmen killed 10 militants in attacks around the country Sunday, security officials said. A visiting U.N. envoy met with Saleh to push for a solution to the country's political crisis.
Kidnappings are common in Yemen, where tribesmen use abductions to try to force concessions from the government, such as the release of fellow tribesmen in prison.

?The project is the first major sale for Portenoy, who did a well-received rewrite on the in-development remake of Porky's. He also wrote a segment for Movie 43, a Peter Farrelly-produced Relativity comedy anthology; his segment stars Emma Stone and was directed by Griffin Dunne.
Portenoy is repped by WME, Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and attorney Rob Szymanski.
Brand, who starred for Warners in this year's Arthur remake, will next appear in New Line's all-star feature adaptation of Rock of Ages and is set to star opposite Julianne Hough in Juno writer Diablo Cody's untitled directorial debut.

ANAHEIM -Alex "Bruce Leroy" Cacares carries a huge persona, but not big enough to overcome the lack of size he battled at lightweight during Season 12 of "The Ultimate Fighter.' Now that he's dropped all the way down to 135 pounds, it looks like he might be a real prospect.
Cacares' athleticism was impressive during a 15-minute battle on the feet. He had Cole Escovedo confused throughout and rolled to a unanimous decision, 30-27 on all three scorecards. This was win No. 1 in the UFC for the 23-year-old Cacares (6-4, 1-2 UFC).
"I feel great and I don't think it has all registered yet. This was my third fight under the UFC banner and considering that I lost my first two I knew that tonight it was do or die," Cacares said. "After my last loss I felt it was my conditioning that cost me the win. House, the cut-man, told me I needed to work on my endurance and he gave me a list with some different sprints to do. I think those definitely helped me get the victory tonight. ?It's my dream to fight in the UFC and I want to make sure it lasts as long as possible."
Escovedo, 29, has a lot of experience around the world. He was once a WEC champ, but he had trouble tracking down Cacares. Cacares did a job with his offensive game mixing in a variety of kicks with some good two and three punch combinations.
Escovedo was surprised by the one-sided decision and said he had some troubles with his weight cut that left him lacking explosiveness.
"Nothing that Alex hit me with hurt me in the fight. He didn't have any power on his punches and we knew that coming into the fight. I accidentally cut to 134 yesterday and I think that hurt my stamina in the fight and cost me the win. I'm extremely disappointed with my performance."
Rosa wins battle of the clinch to get first UFC win
Aaron Rosa made the wise move of getting back to his natural class down at 205. There is no easy weight class in the UFC, so he got a solid test from UFC newcomer Matt Lucas.
Rosa showed better stamina and landed some heavy shots inside during a fight that featured 80 percent clinch work along the cage. The veteran got his first UFC win via majority decision, 30-26, 30-26 and 28-28, in fight No. 1 of the UFC on Fox card in the Honda Center.
Rosa (17-4, 1-1 UFC) lost his promotional debut back in June at UFC 131. Heavyweight Joey Beltran beat him up that night as Rosa entered the cage in excess of 250 pounds.
Tonight, he was a trim 205 and it made a big difference. Lucas landed four takedowns, but Rosa was able to get to his feet quickly in all four cases. Lucas (14-3) worked the takedown for most of the 15 minutes and it tired him badly. He spit out his mouthpiece on three occasions. Referee John McCarthy took a point away from Lucas in the second.
"I was very happy to go out there and get the win in such a big show. When the people started cheering it made all the work worthwhile," Rosa said. "My hands are feeling a little roughed up but I'm very excited to get back in the Octagon as soon as possible."
It's not surprising at all to hear Rosa's hands were hurt. He landed a lot of heavy shots in close quarters. He really beat up Lucas with elbows to the head, side and back during the clinches.
"I was way too reluctant and I couldn't seem to find my rhythm or put my strikes together the way that I planned to. I was stalling, I think being under the lights for the first time in an event like this had something to do with it. ?Hopefully I'll be back to show the fans what I can do," said Lucas.
Pierce edges Bradley using crisp left hand
Mike Pierce and Paul Bradley are carbon copies. Both fighters have a good wrestling background and developing striking. Pierce was a little better with his hands tonight and got slight nod on the scorecards in a split decision victory, 30-27, 29-28 and 28-29.
Much of the fight spent battling in the clinch for head control and inside punches. Pierce did most of his damage in close quarters. Anytime the fighters broke, Pierce (13-4, 5-2 UFC) did a nice job of landing his left hook. Bradley's eyes were pretty busted up by the end of the fight.
That's win No. 5 in the UFC for Pierce. He was on a great run and moving up the rankings until he met another good wrestler in Johny Hendricks during the summer. He lost that fight via unanimous decision. This gets him back on track.
Bradley (18-4, 0-2 UFC) is a tough opponent, he just hasn't been able to turn the corner in big fights. He's lost to Pierce and Rafael Natal in the UFC and back in 2009 he lost to eventual Strikeforce middleweight champ Luke Rockhold at 185 pounds.
This was actually a rematch of a 2009 outside the organization. Pierce won that night in a unanimous decision.

When the ensemble of cesium beam and hydrogen maser atomic clocks strike 11:11 today at Boulder?s National Institute of Standards and Time nothing will happen. Never mind the fact that the numbers are both binary and identical and that the square of any cluster of 1?s is going to be palindromic as well. 11 x 11 = 121 and 121 x 121 = 12321 [edit.comm.: first draft of the post had a typo here, omitting the 2 in both instances of 121].
Pop culture is considerably less oblivious. Tumblr microblogs are reveling in the fact that we?re also on the 11th Doctor Who and marginal but loyal faction of Spinal Tap are observing Nigel Tufnel day in honor of the legendary fake popstar?s legendary fictitious amp.
A group of British explorers are launching a reenactment of the Scott / Admunson race to the pole today to raise funds for the British Royal Legion today in honor of Veterans day which is observed on November 11th because at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of the year 1918, the ceasefire between The Allied Nations and Germany went into effect. Granted, ?The War to End All Wars? officially ended on June 28, 1919 with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles but consistency makes for good symbolism. Scientific?
Palindromes and symmetry have a decided emotional resonance. A surge of weddings are scheduled for today because the symbolic symmetry corresponds to the two individuals taking the vows of matrimony. A spoke in the number of births and of deaths would not be surprising. Science?
I read Stephen Jay Gould?s ?Questioning the Millennium? in 1999 while writing and rehearsing my first New York full length solo performance, GreenlandY2K. Gould?s observations about numerological coincidences gave context and ground to the story I was creating about the millennium, the Y2K bug and a doomed expedition to the North Pole coinciding at the stroke of midnight.
Numerological coincidences remain fascinating precisely because they can boast no general or cosmic meaning whatsoever,? Gould explains in I Have Landed: the End of a Beginning in Natural History. The ?eerie fascination? many people have with ?coincidence and numerology? Gould attributes to the fact that people have ?so thoroughly misunderstood probability.? He cites famous historical coincidences ?Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on the 4th of July; Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln were both born on February 12, 1809? as examples and points out that, by ordinary rules of probability, both coincidences are unremarkable. In Questioning the Millennium, Gould details how the 1,000 AD Gregorian miscalculation continues to skew our calendars because you actually start counting at one, not zero.
As the national standard for frequency, time interval, and time-of-day and a vital contributor to time and frequency standards throughout the world, it is not NIST?s place to acknowledge anything exceptional about 11/11/11. Will NIST?s employees be as irreverent about the coincidence as the institution they work for or will they gather round the clocks? A surge in attention, interest and activity would not be inconsistent with the principles of probability, or the principles of human nature.
